General description

A cytolytic toxin that causes depolarization of skeletal muscle fibers in vitro. Stimulates Ca²⁺ transport and ATP hydrolysis by the sarcolemmal Ca²⁺/Mg²⁺-ATPase. Its action is strongly potentiated by phospholipase A₂. Inhibits protein kinase C (IC₅₀ = 1.8 µM).
